You people just don't get it. I would stand firm against consolidation in Wise County whether I had a degree from Harvard or whether I was a street sweeper. I want to be able to one day raise children in this town and I want them to be able to go to school in their home town. In my opinion, that is what is best for them. If the rest of you think that your kids would be better off with something different, more power to you. But don't force these things on other people who see differently. Tyranny of the majorty, it is called, and if consolidation happens, that will be the only word for it.
Unlike some people, I care more about my home than about moving away to make piles of money, or saving a little on my taxes by closing schools. I will spend the rest of my life living just exactly where Im sitting today.. because that is what I choose to do. Because I believe this area is one of the few "good places to live" left in the world today. And that's my decision to make.
If anyone wants my opinion, Flat Gap and East Stone Gap would be better off today if they had their high schools back. Having smaller elementary schools wouldnt be such a bad thing either. Community matters. Obviously "big city" areas have lost sight of this.. just take a look at society today. At least here we can still go to bed at night and not have to lock our doors, and we can leave our keys in the car.. and not have to worry about some punk making off with it. And you people are telling me that what NOVA has is better? Just in what way is it better?
I'll give you credit...you've got some spunk...but if it ever comes to a vote, don't be surprised by the results.

Which is why you prove yourself less than credible. You base it purely on heart, not head. You show yourself unwilling to learn or change. You stand against it. No matter what is said. When facts have been presented to you, you go present me facts, prove me wrong or make smart comments.

You're saying that everybody has to pay more to keep you and yours happy, and if not that its tyranny. How about its others deciding what is best for them. Shoot if you want the ultimate on small schools, might as well close them and home school.

If a valid debate can be made about cost to repair/improve verus building new ones and consolidating, but there is something called diminishing returns. Eventually when the cost to repair or rebuild something is too great, they don't. Think of car insurance. If you have a certain amount of damage done, the insurance will pay for repair. If however it goes past a point, they consider a car totalled.

Im lookin through the yearbook here and they seemed to have left you out of the top ten. And as far as dottie goes, she would take the time to explain anything if you would have just asked. I've seen her take 20 minutes to explain something to someone. She doesnt stop until they understand. And as far as not conjugating verbs in senora's class, you must have been asleep or something because thats what about half of her entire class is.

I have already made my case. Many of you will say that I haven't. You've made your cases, and I disagree with them, same as you disagree with mine.
I have presented facts and examples, and they have been overlooked, made light of, or ignored. Yes, some of you have made answers to some of them, but these have mostly been answers based in opinion or based on your hearts..(like I am now accused of doing) and occasionally on "research" to the contrary. If you search long enough, you can probably find a study somewhere that says that the sky is red and since we see it is blue that were all colorblind. So in what way are your "facts" more credible?
And change is not always good or to be welcomed with open arms.. as many of you seem to think.

The only ones you give any value to is the ones who agree with you.
The simple fact is you said you would not be for it no matter what. So that proves you are not worth discussing it with. If there was pages of proof, tons of facts, and 99% of the examples showed it worked, you done clarified and admitted your view.
